House share...

Hi.
I am thinking of doing a house share with a female friend from work. This is totally above board we are not in any sort of relationship and never will be. Basically we are in the same boat, single full-time parents to a child each.
She works a 36 hr week on NMW and as it stands does not get any CB or Tax credits as the care of her child is on a 50 / 50 basis with the ex husband who gets them. My position is that i work 32 hrs per week NMW and get the CB and TC for my child.
Can you tell us how the benefits situation will work out with regards to HB, TC and CB, do we have to make a joint claim even though there is 0% chance of us ever becoming a couple and also how is a claim for housing benefit worked out. Do we make our own claims based on 50% of the rent etc...?

You need to make separate claims based on half the rent. However, expect to be asked questions - do you have four bedrooms?0

Hi.
We haven't got that far yet as it still a little while away, i am guessing it will be 4 bedrooms as i have a son and she has a daughter. My son will also want the odd friend round for a sleepover too.
I understand the separate rent claim but would i need to inform tax credits or child benefit?0 -

Only of your change of address - your claim would continue as normal.0
