Carpet Virgin - advice please!

I'm really sruggling to buy carpet, which is frustrating me as I like to think of myself as a savvy resourceful shopper. I've never bought carpet before and I'm suprised and frustrated by the lack of choice and information available. Compared to say tiles or wooden flooring, carpet places seem stuck in the 80s, the salespeople are uninspiring and there seems to be little choice on the internet.
All we want is a medium-wear, solid colour, pale grey carpet thats not too synthetic looking but doesn't have to be super-high quality. I've been to all the carpet barns (Allied/carpet right/toons/potters) and I've had swatches from carpet.it, ukcarpetsdirect.com and a couple of other sites but theres NOTHING that fits the bill. I'm going check out the independants in my local town (loughborough) this weekend too but I feel like I'm missing a trick or something...
PLEASE has anyone got any insights??? Thanks

Carpet Virgin - advice please!

I would recommend a 80/20 wool mix. These tend to wear well and look good for longer.
What are you struggling to find? The right quality for the right price or the colour?
I know a good place in West London if you are near there.0 -
I agree with cally, the 80/20 wool mix is best. A high wool mix carpet is not only hardwearing, but keeps it's good looks.
Have you got any department stores near you? They usually carry a good range of carpets & can order from samples for you.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
