Repair or replace conservatory roof?

hi!

our conservatory roof is approximately 3.7m wide by 2.6m deep, with a relatively small pitch slope in the roof. there are some leaks, we really don't know if it is because the lead flashing has failed, if the seals between each of the long polycarbonate panels have gone, or if something else is causing water to enter.

we have been quoted 1600 for a new glass roof, 1600 for a polycarb roof, and from one company, double for both..! we did get three quotes from 3 different companies, but they differ, wildly, and in any event they all said not to repair it.

one guy said we should try to repair, but would it be throwing good money after bad, with no guarantee it'll fix things..?

your thoughts please?

thanks!

Does the existing roof have glass or Polycarbonate?, If Poly it may not be strong enough to support glass.

What specification do the quotes include? Re: repairing, its impossible to say without seeing the roof.If it leaks in a few places it may well need replacing.
  • thanks for your reply. the roof is currently polycarbonate, one company said that if they replace the roof then they. would redo it, increase the slope, put new bars, and install glazed windows, for 1600..? sound a bargain, or something not to be missed. this is half of the two other quotes from other companies.

oh, and the rain may be getting in the top, and drips through as it rolls down the bars. I think each panel is ok, but it does get too bright and hot, maybe glass would be better..?

and for the record, the conservatory was install about 10 years ago. who knows if we repair now, something else might fail in a few months...?

Are the window frames timber or Upvc? A glass roof will be hotter in Summer than polycarbonate. When they say they will "install glazed windows" is that in the roof? roof vents?

    Some photo's would help
