Hi
Currently I have a pre-payment electicity metre with Scottish power manweb and I have just had the all clear from my landlord to have it taken out and change suppliers if I want to however I was wondering if there was a charge for removing it and putting in a regular metre.
Its quite a new key metre.
Thanks

I spoke to British Gas recently about changing my pre-pay gas meter to a proper one, and they said it would be free.0

Thanks.
I am looking at switching to Powergen, can I switch even though I currently have a prepayment metre but would like to go onto quarterly billing?0 -
Hi,
Some companies will charge you for removal, I think it depends on the length of time you have been with them. Your best bet is to phone PowerGen and ask them if you switch to them will they remove your pre-payment meters for free. If they say yes, get it in writing and switch via quidco or a comparison website that offers cash back and make some money out of it as well :j0 -
I'm switching! Yay!:j :j :j
Called Powergen (decided on supplier after looking a comparison sites) and they are going to first switch me over to them on my existing prepayment metre then swap it for a regular metre and go onto direct debit payments and online billing (saves another 2%) I know I could have got £25 cashback with Quidco but it was looking like it was more difficult to sort out wholly online and would take much longer as the option to change on prepayment was not given.
I have switched my gas to Powergen and through Quidco online though (£25 cashback!) so I will get a duel fuel discount of 9% once its all being paid DD. I was so ripped off with my prepayment metre and Scottish Power gas prices and am now looking forward to much lower engery prices (& Tesco Clubcard points!) starting in about 6 weeks. Result!
