Ill Health Retrement

I have been ill for a longtime with M.E. Is Ill Health Retirement a good thing to do when im only 49yrs old?As my work has discussed this with me as I have been off work for a longtime due to my M.E.

Comments

  • My husband had to do this, although I blame the company for making his condition worse.

It's not nice going from a good wage onto ESA and a very small pension but if you are to ill to work what choice do you have?

Is the money worth it though,As they don't tell me just now till I agree to it,Also I failed my ESA interview after receiving the payment for 4 months,And I get Higher rate DLA,It just doesn't make sence,I have worked all my life,And now I have a Disability which is no fault of my own,And I feel im getting punished

Are you saying that your company have offered you ill-health retirement but are refusing to tell you what payment you'll get (pension, lump sum) until after you accept?

I to get higher rate DLA of both componants and although I recieve ESA I was put in the Work group without having an interview with them, no it doesn't make sense but there's not a lot you can do about it unless you appeal.

Sorry I made a mistake,If my Dr agrees that I have to be put forward for Ill Health Retirement,My Employer will send the forms to Lothian Pension Fund then they will have to agree that I fall into the Category, then tell me what the payments will be.

You should be able to contact your pension scheme and get an estimate of your pension. When I did this, they gave me 3 values - one if I just retired early with no ill-health component; one for class I ill health pension and one for class II ill health pension.

You also have to realise that your pension income will direct affect many benefits you are likely to need to claim.

Just ensure that you get the benefit of retiring under ill health from the pension scheme if these apply to you, ie, you should get an enhanced pension equating to if you had retired at a later age, but with no additional premiums paid. (something like that););)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Due to a serious industrial injury I had to retire at 49. After several years, I found I was able to return to part time employment. Although financialy I was no better off I feel much better being able to contribute to society.

    Good luck
