I wasn't defending them, it shouldn't have gone out like that.

But, by the same token, you as the driver have a duty to ensure that the car you are driving is safe and legal. The times I have hired a car I have gone over it with a fine tooth comb before signing for it as you hear so many horror stories about hire companies.

I am with you, I have hired many cars from LAS all with Dollar. I check them thorughly before signing for them, you also get the option of any car from a pool of cars.

i think OP should accept the offer, as has been said how will it make it any different for you, you messed about for a day and dint suffer any harm

Moreover, I doubt you can make any difference to the hire company and they are as likely to change over this as you winning the lottery!

I think this is a choose your battles.... I admire the OP for making a stance but I also suspect nothing short of a few deaths will get the hire company to change how they act.

We did check the car over but would have had to lie in the floor and get undermeath the car to see where the tyre damage was, we certainly did this with the replacement and discovered that there wasn't a spare tyre! They are obviously in and out so fast that they aren't checked properly. We will choose a different company next time but I don't think I will ever have any faith in any of them now. Lesson learned I think, I just hope it doesn't happen to anybody else but I won't hold my breath :o

How did you notice a tyre had a tear in it when putting air in?

If you could see it then , I would have thought you could have seen it when picking the car up.

Like you I think they are in and out very fast, thats why it makes sense to give it a thorough check

They must all be old high mileage cars then. In my experience the keys are in the cars and you take your pick.

Never had a choice with Dollar in US or Budget. Only Alamo have ever offered pick of cars in class reserved.

Nope, the tear was on the inner wall of the tyre and we only saw it because the angle the car to get the air hose to reach. We are usually given a choice but there was only one this time which, as I said, we did check however, we would have had to get under the car to see the damage. Even the mechanic didn't see the damage until he got under the car to check the other tyres for us.
