Has anyone on here had fertility issues after being on the depo injection? I've been off it about 18 months and had no periods, I've had plenty of tests and I am going to the fertility clinic at the hospital in 3 weeks, what will happen?? How can they 'fix' me?
Anyone been through this I would love to hear others storys! just wanted to add that I already have children so I know I can get pregnant and my partner has no problems so its all me!!

Hiya
I never had the injection but was on the pill. I think with either it can take a while for fertility to return.
I tried for 18 months to have my son and had just had my first appointment at fertility clinic when I found I was pregnant.
I was diagnosed with PCOS.
Have tried for a second for over three years with no sucess. Have been put on clomid but again no sucess so far.
The clinic will possibly run tests (they didn't with me as the consultant said having a baby showed there was probably no problems ie blocked tubes etc).
I guess what I'm trying to say that having conceive before doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a problem. The clinic will run tests and then I think a normal starting point is to try Clomid and then progress from there.
Good luck.Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.0 -
I got PG with DD whilst supposedly still under the effect of depo just over 20 years ago, I had the jab with the rubella one because they discovered I had no immunity whilst pg with DS.
I hope you manage to get this sorted and have another baby.0 -
i had the deppo jag after my first son. theres 5 years betweem my son and daughtet due to me having the jab. i used the depo jag for 3 years straight away after my first. it took 2 years for me to even have a period after not using the jab and i got pregnant on my 3rd monthly cycle.
i was told by the doctor that it can take 2 3 years to come out of your system properly. and it did take 2 years with me to come out of my system.
i did not want such a age difference with my kids at the time but its good now having that 5 year age gap. hes a very good big brother.
i hope this of help to you . and good luck and you already have kids so it just looks like its still in your system like it was with me .Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0 -
I took it for 18 months after having DD. When I came off it it took 6 months for my periods to return. To this day (2 years later) they have not returned to a normal cycle, whether this is due to it or whether it is due to my age (40) I don't know but prev I had had 28 day cycles and conceived 3 times within 1st month whilst in my 30s.0

hi, was on the jab for 2 years and then it took a year for periods to return. my friend still had periods while on the jab (or "bleeds" if not real periods)0

i still ovulate and have periods while on the jab, and currently with the mirena coil in. maybe it's less effective because i'm overweight.
back in my thin days i used depo and it took nearly 2 years for my periods to come back, i had been on depo for 2 years and my periods stopped within a couple of months of being on it.
everyone seems to say 'up to a year' after stopping depo, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
my consultant took a detailed history and sent me for an ultrasound scan. he took blood to check levels of hormones such as FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), testosterone etc. and diagnosed PCOS. my GP had already diagnosed it from a previous scan but the consultant wanted his own investigations  he seemed to think i just needed to wait, because i'd already had one child.
i found that to begin with my consultant said wait and see, come back in another 6 months! i was under him for 2 years before he said he would give me clomid in another 6 months, but i got pregnant then, after some endometriosis treatment.
sometimes it takes a while to get things going, and you may have to start all over again with the 'wait and see' approach. hopefully not, fingers crossed that your tests are okay.'bad mothers club' member 13

It is very normal not to get pregnant after 18 months on the depo. I have heard it can sometimes be up to 2 years. I was on the depo for 18 months but put on a stone in weight and was put on the pill instead. I have periods no problem maybe thats the solution. Im not a doctor so get their advice first.

my family planning doc advises stopping Depo 18-24months before trying for a baby - the blurb, she reckons, says a yr but experience tells her its much longer for things to return to normal - maybe because the blurb quotes 'average' time......my own experiences are ... when 1st on it - had been on it for about 2yrs - changed to the pill until periods returned after 3 months then fell instantly pregnant & having stopped jab for other reasons it took 3-4 months at least to return to having periods (last time didnt wait for them to return went straight back on)
I guess the longer you have been having the jab affects how long it takes to get out of the system - btw I only know the times as my dd also has the jab & has been asking when she would need to stop.......eeeek - we go to Family Planning together!I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0
