Broadband Haggling success story

Just thought I'd share a success story I achieved this evening. I am keen to keep domestic bills down. Have been a plusnet customer for almost 2 years. I needed to increase from 10 gb per month after speaking to customer services he agreed unlimited broadband for £4.99 per month. This service is advertised at £9.99 on the website as a Jan special!
Possible tips to getting a better deal: know the other deals i.e. primus and talk talk and quote them.....the staff will prob then slate the customer service from the provider you state.....continue haggling don't just accept what they say "I see what you're saying but a good friend of mine had a good experience with that company he's been with them for a few years"....if you can do this all in a fairly friendly non-personal way...even complement them or stroke their ego ("you sound quite honest"....this also saved me a fortune with my mobile though thats another story).....I called quite late at night and I wonder if that may have slightly helped as well since they prob would not be working at such a frenetic pace.

I did exactly the same with plusnet before New year.
Just rang them for a mac code, they asked why I wanted to leave just said i needed unlimited broadband and could get a better deal elsewhere, immediately gave me the unlimited for 4.99.
Also, another tip is to pay for your line rental up front as you are now on a one year contract on the unlimited package.
So might as well pay and save on the line rental to.
Down from 13.99 to 10.49 if paid upfront for the year.0 -
In late summer 2011 I was coming to the end of my contract with Plusnet and at the time could get a better deal elsewhere. After a bit of negotiation I agreed an 18 month fibre package at a reduced price from list. However after 12 months they reverted to charging me the full price and when I queried it (with two different people) they said that the retentions dept was separate from customer service and c/s had no record of our verbal agreement so hard luck and no I couldn't leave as I had an 18 month contract. We shall see what I can sort out in a couple of months.0

If they have admitted having no record of the agreement, then the alleged 18 month contract is void/non-existent, isn't it?

You would think so wouldn't you. In all honesty given the lack of problems with the service and apart from this one instance the general helpfulness of their people, for the sums involved I decided it wasn't really worth fighting over.
However I will not have forgotten when the time comes for contract renewal.......0 -

I intend to sign up for Primus when my current 1 year deal expires in March with plusnet for phone rental. Primus are a few quid cheaper per month and ideal since I don't use the line.0 -
Same here with Sky. Got it half price for 9 months. If in doubt, haggle!Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0
