From when we last bought one, I believe the better brands use induction motors

    From the magimix website
"...An induction motor runs on AC power only and does not use the brush and armature configuration of universal motors in its construction.
In fact there are very few parts in contact with any other part inside an induction motor, as it essentially employs an electro-magnetic field to get it up to speed. This by its very nature keeps the motor quiet and less prone to failure, breakdown or burn out..."

Not any more. The link works but rotten so-and-so's now have that £85 one as 'out of stock' if one tries to buy it. It's in their Blue Cross sale (not 'out of stock') at £160.....no longer a bargain.

I got the magimix 4200 for £210 in a local store which I was very happy with.

Very impressed with it so far , came with enough extras to do everything I need it to do

That's why I tend to include " at the moment " when posting such offers

I've had a Kenwood FP120 for a couple of years now. I use itoccasionally, not every day or week but it's as good as new. The motor isn't v strong and the bowl is quite small so it depends what you need it for, but I've used it for chopping, grating, slicing, mixing and whizzing up pasta dough Jamie-style with no problem. And it's only £35.

Word of warning about Kenwood! I had the FP220 food processor... until it set on fire just over a week ago! The blender had been running about 30 seconds when smoke started to pour out of it. I unplugged it but the smoke got more dense, filling my flat with acrid smoke and setting off my smoke alarms. Living two stories up I couldn't risk taking it outside so I ended up dumping it in a sink full of water.

I contacted Kenwood, got an automatic email saying they would respond in five working days... it's now past that deadline and no response from them.

My biggest concern is that I have Googled the item and there are scores of other complaints online from people who have had the same thing happen... yet Kenwood are still selling the item. They should be pulled from sale immediately and recalled.

The least Kenwood could do would be to respond.

I'm currently trying to find an email address for the chief exec as I don't know how else to raise this if they won't respond via the usual route.
  • Is it worth looking at attachments for your Kenwood Chef? I have just been looking at an ice-cream making attachment for my Kenwood and notice that they sell slicing and grating attachments now.
