Sony Cybershot battery life problem

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone on here could tell me what's wrong with my camera!
It's a Sony Cybershot DSC P93 I bought in 2003 and basically when I put the NiMH batteries in, they only last 5 mins or so before the power goes and the camera turns off. I have 2 sets of batteries and this happens with both sets?
The batteries appear to be charging ok as the orange light goes on when I put them in the charger, although they don't seem to take 8 hours to charge anymore as they used to!
So...are the batteries at the end of their life? (I haven't used them particularly heavily I don't think!) Or might the charger be faulty? Hopefully it's not the camera cos I can't really afford to replace it at the mo!
Thanks in advance - don't want to splash the cash on the wrong solution!

If you put a set of alkalines in your camera does it work OK?
If not, the camera is the problem.
If it does, buy a new set of NiMh batteries (they're not very expensive now) and try them in your charger.
If you have the same problem, then the charger is faulty.Charlie0 -
Very possible they are at the end of their life (or the charger is broke). I'd suggest buying 2300mA batteries. Places like Jessops have these usually bundled with a charger. They are more designed for equipment like digital cameras and last longer than most.
But if you've been using your batteries that long, i'd expect they are probably due for renewal.Throwing acid is bad.... in some peoples eyes...0
