Backdating CTC

Hello.
My son was born on 3rd December and we put in a claim for CTC on the 17th December at the same time as Child Benefit (this was when baby was registered and I needed the birth certificate).
My impression that CTC can only be backdated upto one month. However on the HMRC website it says this
If you're responsible for children
If you're claiming for a new baby, the Tax Credit Office will automatically backdate your claim to their date of birth. But they must receive your claim within one month. For example, if you have a baby on 12 June but your claim's not received until 12 October, your payments will only start from 12 September.
Likewise, if you become responsible for a child, the Tax Credit Office will automatically backdate your claim to when you started looking after the child. But this is only as long as they receive your claim within one month.
Does this mean that if my claim took longer than a month to get sorted out, they'd backdate it to the date of my claim or would they only backdate it one month from their decision?
I'm not sure if I've read it right.
Thank you.

reads to me like they need to receive it within a month
how is the baby?0 -
I believe that it means that providing you send in the CTC claim form within a month of their birth (or adoption), then they will back date your application to either their date/birth or adoption date - it is not about how long it takes them to finally process the award. That can at busy times take 8-12 weeks. This time of year it should take 2 weeks or so. So if you have done this, then it will get back dated to correct date.0

i agree with previous poster - its as long as they receive the info within the one month which counts as like has been stated busy periods it can take weeks to assess your claim!0
