IE & Compatability View

Using IE8 on a Windows 7 laptop, I noticed that Compatability View icon is being displayed on address toolbar for eBay website.
It seems Compatability View is a way to ensure older websites are displayed correctly or better.
Just wondered why that could be, as it is a modern current popular website, so would think they are using good website design methods.
Any ideas why Compatability View icon is appearing for eBay website ?

Because you're using IE8 to view it, perhaps?0

Websites can be forced to use compat mode regardless of your settings.0
