Getting a Current Account with poor credit

Hi I had to close my current account 6 years ago when I moved my debt to a credit council and I had to open a basic bank account.

I am now looking to move back to a current account but I've been knocked back for a couple and don't want to ruin my credit that I'm trying to rebuild.

Anyone know the best way to go around it and also anyone banks best to go with?

Wish this was easy!

Have you checked your credit report lately? That would be a good starting point via Experian or noddle.co.uk

There are plenty of accounts out there designed for people with low credit scores. I would approach the bank of your choosing and go from there. Branch location and the experience of famiyl and friends would be a good place to start. Generally the only high street bank to avoid with poor credit is HSBC as they don't have any products to suit you.

Have you tried the bank with whom you have a basic account?
