  • I did state that in the original post as I included that point in my appeal letter.

If the name of the policy is "whatever happens", then they can't really refuse you unless it was intentional damage to get yourself a new TV (ie fraud). Whatever the terms and conditions say, you can't make a bold claim in the advertising and then rescind it in the small print.

Well Pc1271 in most cases the engineers repair or provide vouchers and only in clear or if it doesn't match the items purpose (For Example, a claim rejected because of excessive water damage with a soapy substance when all that was mentioned when booked in was keyboard and power fault. You can logically deduce that the laptop was being used in a situation where it shouldn't normally (like in a bath). )

But like I said, it goes to the engineers who inspect and usually repair, if they don't feel like it matches what was booked in under or shows clear signs of abuse will they return it, and then the OP has to write to the claims department and if they don't agree with that outcome the OP can go further still, there are two internal processes and the 3rd process is a independent assessor (appointed by Dixons), the vast majority of time writing to the claims department resolve the issue.
  • Thanks for the reassurance CoolHotCold. I'll keep the thread posted with their response for any future people in a similar situation.

I agree pc1271 with your comment though as the sales assistant was also adamant that any accidental damage would be covered.

  • You've spent almost £96 a year in insurance premiums over a five year period just insuring a TV that cost only £350 new???

Cool, you can add up. Not sure what your point is though.

Sounds like you got away lightly, one of the kids could have been under it.... Will someone think of the children??

Good luck OP, I hope you get a new one, and learn not to pay for those silly extra's. They must know people fancy a new TV after about 5 years so have only themselves to blame even IF people throw it off a shelf deliberately.

I purchased a 42" Samsung from Currys approx 5 years ago and have been paying £7.99 each month towards a Whatever Happens insurance agreement.

The word in bold is a mistake, it is not an insurance agreement, it is an extended warranty and DSG go to massive lengths the ensure it is not an insurance agreement

As it is not an insurance agreement you have no ombudsman protection and it simply comes down to you to either argue with DSG to get them to agree that the damage is in line with the circumstances presented or for you to go to court and let them decide if they believe you or the DSG engineer.

Raise a complaint, if that doesnt get anywhere then you'll probably want to get the TV back and then get an independent engineer to do a report on it as this will be helpful in any court case
  • i am in similar situation as you. My ipad stopped working after roling down the stairs with my son. There were no visible damages. Only screen was coming off. I booked in for repair came back 7 days later with big crack on screen (happen during knohow's handling) made a big drama at currys croydon . Manager came spend nearly 3 hours fighting my case. Manager reply was"nothing is in my control its all head office decision please appeal and hopefully it would be accepted.
then i wrote 3 pages appeal. Came back 3 lines reply. Claim was rejected. Again wrote them 2 pages reply explaining everything. And ask them to reply for following.
    1) where and how i can challenge their decision.
    2) if you dont accept claim. Who is going to replace my cracked screen.

reply came . "We have concidered new information provided. But we uphold our original decision.

none of my question was answered. Again wrote them latter with only 2 questions. Lets see what they come up with.

i have contacted watch dog. And trading standards. Its complete fraud.

money saving tip... never ever buy knowhow cover if your item value is more then 150. Under 150 they swap streight away and over that they do not pay.

really sorry if i am breaking bad news. But please google. "Knowhow not accepting my claim"

    thanks & good luck
