offer of a job but may lose out too much

Hi all, little about me i have been on jsa for 2years now and until recently been in and out of agency work but not for the last 2years, i detest the job centre and wp so really want a job.

I have been offered a job which is 24hours per week at £6.71 p/h, i really cant afford to take the job if it pays less as i struggle now on rock and role and other benefits, to you guys it may sound like im avoiding taking the job because im work shy, well no the job centre told me you dont take a job if you will end up getting less then benefits.

My question is what help would i recieve when i take on the job?

These are my benefits at the moment

£71 per week jsa
£105 rent benefit
£150 child credits for 4 children Cant remember how much seem to think its around that
£??? obviously around £50 a week on school dinners

Looking at this i surely am going to be worse of accepting this job? How can this be possible the gov are incouraging not to work?
I cant see my wage and working tax credit be the same unless i dont lose all rent benefit etc???

thanks for reading guys

Well, lets be honest here. If you get a job someone is willing to pay you minimum wage for your skills which might end up being about 10K maybe less. However, you are a disposable commodity to that company whereby if you dont take up the job someone else is ready to take it up. But for the government you are a vote in elections. Your vote is precious. Also the government has tons of cash to splash on unlike private companies. Hence they have decided to reward you with generous benefits for not working if you reward them by voting for them. Simples.

Take the job then look for another part time one to top up your earnings.

I hope the JCP start looking seriously at you. About time you stopped relying on state handouts and gave something back, you will soon be worse off if you remain on benefits anyway. From this April the housing benefit cap will mean you will have to find an extra £20 per mnth, then when the next cap hits you will be loosing more than double that each mnth. You have had a nice long holiday now do some work.

    You'd get
working tax credit 56. A week
    Child tax 216
    Rent 75
    Ct 6.30
    Plus 60.50 cb...
    Plus wages....
= better off ive been on benefits so in no way putting you down working an earning guves you so much more than claiming benefit not just money wise... good luck :)
Ignore reality. There's nothing you can do about it.
    I have done reading too!

the benefit calculator is the best bet for the straight forward finances - the HB cap is unlikely to apply, £105pw HB is pretty low, that income doesnt sound near the £500pw total for the cap.

besides the straight cash though, once in a job theres a chance of more hours, pay increase, eventual promotion and something recent on a CV to show other employers.

is you've been out of work 2yrs now, you should be able to get help with the move back into work with things like extended payments of HB.

there's no point being annoyed until you've found out for definite whether or not you would be worse off. Check this out through the link posted by RAS.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.

There are two caps, the over all benefit cap has been postponed but the housing benefit cap still comes into force from April 2013 and I'm sure it is £350 for single people and £500 for couple per mnth. This may vary across the country so depends where you are.

its a national cap, the only regional variation is the Local Housing Allowance - which is why it will affect places like London more with their higher rents, most of the country will have it in September, unless it changes again.
    - my LA is seen as pretty well off down in the South West & we only have approx 50 cases that will be affected once it hits - out of a caseload of about 12,000.

its weekly rather than monthly & the figures are £500pw for single parents & couples, £350pw for single people without children.
