I WANT 
my start button back , so have installed classic shell which gives me ?? a start button on my desktop , have installed Skip Metro suite .
Question , when I use the Start button to turn off lap top , it reverts to a pop up .........Window 8 Shut down dialogue box, this gives me the option of turning off, but of course this is long winded .
Is there a way of bypassing win 8 shutdown box.
After using win 8 for many months there is no point in posting short cut keys from win 8 , I have tried them ,they are not as friendly as the 'old' start button.

You could configure the laptop hardware power button to do a normal shutdown from Windows.
Win key + X --> Power Options --> Choose what you want the power button to do.604!0
