Windows update problem

Options
Hi, I wonder if anybody can help

The windows 7 updates downloaded on my Dell laptop today as normal.

When I switched off, the updates started to install as normal, but the process seems to have stalled at update 10 of 14.

It's now been stuck at this point for about 20 minutes . The disc light was busy to start off with, but is now flashing intermittently.

Please can anyone advise me the best thing to do now

Thanks

I have also had a problem seemed to be taking forever, I just clicked again and watched it install, it did take ages.

Plug in the power supply (so it doesn't run out of juice half way through) and leave it to it.

But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

Unfortunately, that's not an option for me, I didn't start the installation process from the task bar, but from the shut down button.

I've got the blue screen telling me that windows is being updated, do not power off etc.

It is plugged into the mains though

    Any luck, Goldie?

I'm hearing about several friends having problems with KB2756921 - a dotnet update.

There seems to be an incompatibility between it and the other updates. The secret is to install the others first, reboot to complete the configuration, then run KB2756921 on its own.

    .

Well we got there in the end, more by luck than judgement, I think.

After about half an hour we were still on the blue screen telling us 10 of 14 updates were being installed. It was clear nothing else was going to happen, so we powered off ( even though the screen says not to power off!) and restarted. The windows loading screen came up, saying windows resuming, and went straight to to blue update screen. Again, there was no progress, so we tried again, this time leaving the computer for several hours. Still nothing happened.

So we had one more try just before we went to bed. Believe it or not, that time when windows started, it started normally, did all the update actions, and then went to the desktop. There was still an update icon in the task bar, so we installed the remaining updates, and re-started.

Since then everything has been fine.

    Computers, eh?
