I have my first statement at last and my council tax payments did count towards the 15 transaction needed in the month as generating cashback (so that's alright)

No fee has yet appeared. According to Barclaycard Q&As:
The annual fee is charged the month after the account has been opened, and then annually after that.
Which doesn't quite gel with the Terms and Conditions that state the fee is the first transaction at the anniversary "annually after that" suggests the fee won't be applied until months 2..14..26 (etc)

Has anyone actually been charged this fee in the first few months of their accounts being opened?
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam
  • I have just received this card ( despite not properly completing the application as their web site crashed but another story...)

So far I have made two calls to Customer Service and yet to get a proper answer ( or one that I could understand!)

All the Terms and Conditions mention "purchases within a Month". Obviously with a cashback card the period of a 'Month' is very critical as outside this period and the purchase does not count.

Can anyone tell me what this so called ' Month' period is? I have received my card this week so have I lost a few eligable days out of my Month ??

I can see this as a very conventient get out for Barclays ie " outside the Monthly purchase date.

The month will be the period of your statement. I would phone up and ask when your statement will be generated.

Thanks for this - I got the card specifically to repay some tax credits and the rest of the 6% I thought I would use on council tax (even with the 2.5% fee charged by the council this still beats the 1% cashback I get form Santander 1-2-3.
    I think....

If only it were that easy! Have phoned twice and got two different answers from ill informed staff.

One said that it was the 26th of the month but the other that the statement was generated in 19 working days (ie excluding Sat / Sun ) ?? which means what ? My quibble was that because i had recieved the card into the month (no pin) did my 'month' start then or when I started making (or was able) purchases?

I still dont know when my monthly cut off point is and I need to make some big purchases but loathe to do so until I know they will be counted. Is there a 'British' call centre available?

Barclaycard do have a "floating" statement and payment date. The date is fixed by a number of working days (from when I'm not sure!). Generally the statement will be generated around the same date each month, but it will move back and forth a bit because of bank holidays or if the month started with a weekend. The payment date is then fixed a certain number of working days after the statement date, so again can move.

Personally I much preferred it when with Egg my statement date was the 1st of the month, and the payment date the 13th, and they'd only move to later if there was a weekend or bank holiday in the way.

Oh right well I was still using my old card for half of my first 'month' and after I started using my new card they cancelled the old one they gave me cashback on purchases I had made that month with the old card too. It worked out better than I was expecting for me tbh.

how is the cashback paid please? Is it just a credit to your credit card account at the end of the year or do you actually get money paid back into your bank account?

I received my statement today and I'm a bit confused. My top five purchases amounted to £2352.75 . I have no outstanding transactions. I am in my second month and my cashback is listed as 6% on my statement.

Yet the cashback I have been awarded amounts to £79.95 ??? Are my maths wrong - I calculated that I was owed £141.16 but if there was a monthly cap of £120 so be it, I expected to get that amount.
Where do they get £79.95 from?
