Acceptance of goods is really when the item arrives or you get it out the box and have a good look at it. You then make a decision and decide if it's Fit for purpose, as described etc...
It doesn't mean that you can use the product on a trail basis and return it if you don't like it.
Yes products sometimes go faulty, it's part of life and yes there are laws to protect the consumer. Hence why consumers are entitled to a replacement, a repair or a refund. As long as you receive one of these then the company has met their obligations.
The rules on returns and refunds differ somewhat online but that's to ensure that you are happy with your purchase because you have only seen a picture.
Us as consumers want everything, best product possible for as little as possible. Wooo betide the shop making a profit (ripping us off as most would call it).
But how many of us go to work for free??? Shops need to make profit, the overheads alone are massive. Rent, business rates, utility bills, NI, PAYE, Staff wages etc....
Yes some shops did not do as they should via the letter of the law, but then do we all comply to the law 100% everyday of our lives. Answer no.
If we enter a contract we should agree and go ahead with it.
A mattress with some stitching coming loose does not make it unfit for purpose. It can still be slept on, it's just got a minor fault.
As for the sagging its settlement of the fillings, just as walking on the same bit of carpet goes a little flat compare to the bit under the telly that's never been used. This is why it's important to turn over a mattress regularly, weekly for 1st 8-12 weeks and then monthly. Rotated around if it's a non turn mattress. Settlement of up to 1 inch is quite common, depending on the size of the sleeper.
As long as the company offers one of the 3 R's then all should be good.
Let's just remember those poor staff at Comet and now Jessops before we all think that we are being ripped off. Over 4,000 people without jobs.
Do we want a Country full of Supermarkets, coffee shops, take aways, charity shops and estate agents. Because that's where we are heading, the internet playing a bigger role in our shopping and thousands and thousands of people out of work because of it. Support your shops and if you agree to buy something then buy it.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

Excellent post, couldn't agree more .
Would also like to add, that conversation in a rational, even tempered tone, in order to get something rectified, works extremely well instead of becoming an overnight solicitor and throwing around legislation which you are trying to fit to suit your purposes.
I think the problem we have these days is that people have forgotten how to interact with other human beings and a certain amount of selfishness is now the norm, in effect ' To hell with everyone else think about me , I am the only one that matters'0
