Making cash from online survey sites - new MSE guide

  • Thought I'd do an update on the sites I use:

YouGov - High cashout (£50) and takes over a year to reach it but surveys are quite quick, mostly pay 50p and most importantly have never been screened out of one.

Global Test Market - Still the highest payers overall but in the time I've been doing them they increased the threshold from 1000 points to 1100 for the same amount of money, then replaced cheques with paypal but still need 1087 points to cashout and have reduced the amount of points they reward per survey e.g. a 30 point survey is now 22 points. They sent many invites everyday, most of which I get screened out of and some screen you out when finishing the survey and they'll do nothing if you complain. If you only care about the money and don't care about the pain of doing their surveys then this is the one I'd recommend.

NewVista Live - This one was a slow burner but now they have teamed up with toluna I get almost daily invites now. However, most of them are closed when I click on them and lately I've been offered surveys paying £0.00! The actual Newvista Live surveys are quite quick and easy but the toluna ones are tedious so very hit or miss.

Panelbase - Seems a good one if you watch a lot of telly, the actual panelbase surveys are usually nice and quick but they can have tedious partner surveys too.

Crowdology - As a rule I only do the short surveys which can quite often be quizzes which can be fun. The long ones seem to take you round the houses and results in nothing so I just avoid these. Also, if is says its trying to match you up with a survey then abandon it as you wont get credited.

Mind mover - Actual mindmover surveys are quite nice if infrequent. Get almost daily invites to partner surveys which can pay well but often I'm screened out before I can even start the survey and when I can do the survey it's often long and boring.

One Poll - Short surveys that often pay 10p, some can be just one question. Have been finding they don't give me as many surveys as they used to. You'll also find the nearer you are to the £40 cashout the less opportunities you'll get.

Opinion Bar - The bulk of the surveys I get here are about Lager or Cider. Usually pay £1 per survey and 10p if you don't qualify, but survey invites are quite rare.

Opinium - Surveys are quite short and very rarely get screened out, but also rarely get invites. Takes around a year to reach the £25 threshold.

Opinion World - there was a phase where I'd only get prize draw surveys, then it told me I get points for doing a survey because I'm a valued member. I always get nervous towards the end of each survey as to whether I'll get credited or not. I also never do GFK or Neilson surveys through here as they never credit. You only need £10 to cashout and it goes in your paypal straight away.

Populus Live - They pay well but survey invites don't come often. The quotas fill up quickly too, presumably because they pay well. Threshold is £50 so can take a while.

Pure Profile - This is one you need to login to check your next button rather than wait for e-mail invites. Can be a slow burner but surveys often pay over £1 and you get 5p for getting screened out.

Your say pays - Probably the nicest surveys. This is another you need to login to rather than wait for e-mail invites. Tend not to pay more than 50p per survey but they last 2 minutes maximum so can't complain.

Panel Opinion - Very rarely get surveys here, took a year to get my first £10 but the surveys are quite quick.

These are ones I don't bother with anymore:

My survey - This was always a feast or famine when it came to survey invites. The surveys were always long and boring, but suddenly I was getting no invites and then found out I'd been banned, but they wouldn't tell me why.

Ipoll - I would never qualify for the surveys that paid well, the poorly paid surveys were along the lines of 60p for 30 minutes which is just not worth my time. You'd then need to wait 6 weeks for it to credit, had a high payout threshold where you'd have to wait another 6 weeks for paypal and then they'd take an admin fee out of your reward so I decided it just wasn't worth it.

We Pay Per Survey - Rarely qualified for a survey and when I did they were long and boring and then I realised that after a year I'd made just £8 so carried on till my next payout and called it a day.

WH Smith - The invites stopped and then I logged in one day to find it didn't recognise my details, not sure if I was banned or it no longer exists.

Opinion Outpost - Seems to be the same as Opinion world so if you've done all your available surveys on Opinion World you'll probably have none here. I chose Opinion World as the lowest they pay per survey is 50p, whereas Opinion Outpost has 25p surveys.

Toluna - Seemed quite a generous amount of points they paid per survey, but then translating it into real money you realise how little it is and how much you need to do to get any money I decided it wasn't worth my while.

They turned into Tribe Surveys a while ago
    http://surveys.tribesprojects.co.uk/member/

when they moved/merged/whatever they sent an email saying that log in details would be the same, but I'm not sure if that was for a limited time or not.
Surveys from them are few and far between, but probbo worth £4 every month or so. (£4 being the cash out to paypal)

  • Has anyone used a website to sign up to all of them or do you just sign up to them separately?

    Thanks

    Seperately.
I am not aware of a collective which will set up a number.
You will need to enter profile details for each and those are likely to be defined by each survey panel.
Despite the above you will see by the appearance of some survey panels that a few are run by the same people i.e., the same interface and responses, and email replies you get are worded almost indentical.
Also many panels push surveys from other panels. So you will find youself being 'passed around'!
    Good luck.
It worth it though not without it's frustrations.

Yeah - not for everyone this! I did try a few years ago, but I'm afraid I just didn't have the patience. Particularly since it triggered an influx of unwanted e-mails to my account, despite blocking / changing privacy and subscription settings.
  • Having been a member of Survey Friends for the last year,
I think that it's one of the best paid online survey sites and should be featured on your website.
Over the past year, I have won many rewards, its a fantastic way of earning some great gifts and vouchers that I've already recommended to my family and friends.

I also frequently use Panel Opinion, free simple sign up and pays in you in cash! It's so simple, you can cash out once you earn £10 and they pay you in less than 10 days. Definitely worth checking out
  • Panel Opinion is by far one of the best surveys sites I have used! Low cash out of only £10, interesting surveys that really don't take up too much time to complete. Having been a member for almost half a year, so far I've managed to accumulate a great amount of cash! Really worth checking out

Is anyone having issues with Populous live?

I'm at £49. Cash out is £50. It's taken me a year to get to £49. Ever since I hit £49 I've been screened out of every single survey.

And I'm not screened out right away. I get to 80-85% and then it screens me out. So I'm doing all the work and they're getting their survey completed (it screams me out at the end set of quality control questions). It seems to me like this is being deliberately done so I don't reach the £50 cash out.

Not happy as I've wasted hours now and keep getting screened out. Just done it yet again. £3 survey. All complete and screened out at 87%.

I've never had this issue with Populus Live - it usually screens out very early if at all. Are you checking that your answers to the quality control questions are consistent beyond a shadow of a doubt? I've accidentally clicked the wrong thing with one of them before and it gives you a real ticking off.

Yes. I'm always very careful with the control questions.

And I could understand if it happened once, I'd put it down to myself making a mistake but this is 5-6 times now, every survey I've been sent since I reached £49.
