Laminate + uneven floor= oops!

I shouldn't have been in such a rush to get it done for the Christmas tree:o

I knew the living room floor was slightly uneven but thought it would be ok,didn't seem too bad!

I've started noticing a fair bit of bounce in some places in the room along with some joints looking a little loose...

Taking bits up and looking properly and using a spirit level, the concrete floor is rather wonky in several random places:o

So,how much would I be looking at to level the floor out? It's a 22x13 room so it's not a small amount of levelling and would be quite a pain?

Is it even worth it or should I just get rid and suffer a decent carpet that takes more cleaning? :(

Its amazing how a floor that looks ,feels and seems level can suddenly be tranformed into a sinking ship when you lay laminate !

It could possibly be skimmed using self levelling compound which is what i used o my concrete floored hallway as it had a bit of a slant to it.

What sort of quality is the laminate? What about underlay and is it a diy job?

SLC is the answer. As long as its flat it doesn't actually have to be level from one end to the other but SLC will accomplish a flat substrate for you. The fitters should have checked with a long straight length of timber or a long spirit level (to check for uneven surface not level) before laying the laminate.

I laid it myself,as usual.I knew I should've checked (did in my old house) but I was in such a rush to get it done ready for the beginning of Christmas after having builders in soundproofing, that I didn't bother:o I'm glad I haven't got round to laying the rest of the flooring downstairs though!!Should've known by the kitchen I'm laying New vinyl on...it kinda bumps in the middle of the room!

How long does the compound take to set properly?I think it was only 24-48 hours before my old kitchen was floored after it but can't remember. Makes it awkward too as need use of the living room most of the day at the moment with ds only being in school part time.hmm:(

I shall go make myself an idiot badge:D

Ahh yes the soundproofing saga. :D

Yes its 24/48 depending but you only need to fill the dips not try and build the whole thing up. Sometimes its necessary to chop the top off the large bumps too!

I would have thought that the already provided soundproofed room in which to park ds would yield an added bonus. ;)

    :rotfl:

I'll see how bad it is.Currently, after having taken off the Scotia (white lol stuff taking skirting off the new walls!) and measuring the visible gaps under the skirting,in places, there are dips up to 7mm in some places:eek: lower in others and with a few bits that actually meet the floor:rotfl: God knows how bad the rest is then, given the middle seems to be the worst for dippy, slopey, bumpy bits.

A job slowly done is surely done. SLC is magical stuff and doesnt need much skill as long as it is mixed correctly. Just bide your time and be patient :)
