problem seems to be sorted now guys,i plugged the router back into the mains(not gonna leave it plugged in 24/7,only when in use) went off and did something else, forgot about it......came back and tried to connect and worked straight away,i was being impatient and not waiting for all the lights to light up on it before trying to connect...sorry for being a div lol

No, routers are designed to be left on 24/7 and consume very little power. Do you switch off or disconnect every other electrical item in your house before "shopping up town"?

A much more important thing for you to do, is to sort out the WPA-PSK encryption of your wireless network which will be disabled by default. see this page for details and get yourself a 64 char hex pre-shared key from here (top box) to copy and paste into your router and PC's.
