Why don't you take them up on this offer and at least you'll get to talk to someone who may be able to help - you might try to do some kind of trade-off, buying some of their insurance, etc. in exchange for a debit card.

I've tried that, believe me. But I never get past the reception who wants to know what I'll discuss so she can redirect me to the right person. Once I get a new account, I will have that meeting and then move my cash elsewhere. And tell them that, too.

TBH if I had six figures with them and they were not offering a debit card, I'd make an appointment with the branch manager.

No, my new moto is don't get mad get even - so will find a new account, go have the meeting with Nationwide and then withdraw all my money and leave £5 in the account. Sounds fair enough to me. ;)

That should work to be honest. Just insist on speaking to the BM and they'll soon sort it out. And probably kick some bottom for the first person who refused you :D

If I were to get financing for a car, would that help with increasing my credit rating as I'd be making regular payments? I know they're a rip off, but the plan would be to pay it for a year to improve my credit rating, then pay the lot off after that. If it wouldn't help, then obviously I won't do it. Thanks. D x

    Hi Dankes,

I'm not particularly au fait with car financing as I've never bought a car but I would suspect it would work in a similar way to any other credit or loan in that you would be credit checked for it and it would appear on your credit report at regular intervals and if that is the case having credit and paying it back on a regular basis always helps improve your credit rating.

    Regards

You would be better off getting a credit card with capital one and always paying it off in full every month. That way you won't have to suffer the high interest rates.
