Moving house when on HB

Hello :)

I am currently receiving HB for my part of the rent on a house shared with 2 other independent people. Due to various problems with our landlord we would like to move. We are looking for places at the same price as what we pay now, but if it should turn out to be even slightly more expensive, what implications does this have for my claim?

Many thanks.

How much LHA you will get depends on your age and area. Google LHA rates for your area and this will give you an idea.
  • Also, some of the houses we've seen so far have got rooms of varying size. Our house now has equal sized room so we split the rent equally. We were considering making an arrangement where we alter the rent split if there's a big difference in room size. Would the HB accept proof of this agreement or only allow a 3rd of the total rent?

I'm pretty certain that wouldn't be a problem, it was more the idea of asking them for more money than I currently receive that I was worried about.
  • Commenting on this again in the hopes of getting some more replies! surely someone out there has had some experience with this?

I'm not really sure what the question is. You can claim anything up to your LHA rate....if moving means the amount increase then that's fine.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
