Emergency Car Hire

We are driving through europe in the summer. Does anyone know of travel insurance policies that will cover for emergency car hire if my car is involved in accident or breakdown, making it unavailable, before departure. Thank you.

You're more likely to find this covered by a break down policy that covers Europe.

I'm not sure whether this fully extends to Europe, but it certainly provides cover for costs to get you home following an accident in Europe.

Pretty sure travel insurance won't cover that and you'll need to get breakdown cover for Europe.

The problem you will experience is that most car hire companies in the UK will not allow their cars to be taken overseas.

I'd say RAC membership as they cover the driver, not the car. Make sure you take European cover which I "think" is tied in to AAA (or somerthing similar) in Europe.

Thanks for replies so far. I have found AA travel insurance will cover for loss of vehicle in the event of accident or breakdown within 7 days of holiday but this is clearly inadequate as it almost always takes longer than 1 week to fix accident damage and provided courtesy cars would not be suitable (or allowed to be taken overseas). I am looking for something with a bit more flexible time limit.
