How often should I bug my solicitor?

We are in the process of buying our first home and the property is empty. When we agreed the price the vendor asked for 6 week completion, which we were more than happy about!!
Everything so far has gone to plan and the contracts from our solicitor are ready to sign BUT he is still waiting for some paperwork(?) to be sent from the vendors solicitor. I don't want to hassle him because he really hasn't hung around in sorting out our end of things but I want to get things moving.
Any advice welcome, for a FTB with no idea?
Thanks.......... Anna

If it were me, I'd ring him, and ask him what exactly the delay is, and what paperwork is he waiting for.
You could speak the other party, no doubt they want to complete too.
I'm sure they are as keen to get your money as you are to get the keys.0 -
I would bug your solicitor as often as it takes for you to feel comfortable and informed with what the situation is.
The other route to take is to phone the EA and ask him to chase with your vendors solicitor as to what the hold up is.
EA's are usually quite happy to pester and chase up solicitors.... especially when they're waiting for their comission0 -
He did mentioned a question about the roof he had, and also something regarding the gas, electric and upvc windows. To be honest I didn't realise the solicitor had anything to do with those things and didn't really understand when he tried to explain. I did ask if phoning the estate agents would help move things along and he said yes. Maybe I should chase them again today

Yeah, chase, chase, chase
I've been chasing everyday for about 2 weeks - it's becomming a little obsessional- but I reckon the EA's get so sick of your phonecalls they'll do anything to get things moving!

My solicitor was waiting on answers he had queried regarding the conservatory roof and other things, it's frustrating waiting isn't it? I agree with the poster who suggested giving the EA a ring, I did this a couple of weeks ago and it was resolved that day! basically the EA rang the vendor and he called into his solicitors to hurry things along!! good luck.. we exchange today (fingers crossed) so exciting!!0 -

Good luck with the exchange. I've just heard that our buyers solicitors are finally ready to exchange today (after about 3 weeks of delays).
Phoned my solicitors to let her know - and she's off sick today!! I almost laughed - is typical with how things are going at the moment!0 -
I don't think they like being bugged on the last Thursday / Friday of the month as that seems to be when most people try and complete...0

With my dealings with EA's I have found if you dont chase and bug them they will just sit back and hope that it all comes together.
This week I chased them all on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Today. Plus I have sent several emails as well, they will soon get fed up and hurry everything through.0
