Flight to Germany - only one way ticket expensive

I am hoping someone can help, I only need a one way flight to Germany, the cost is over £500!! BUT a return flight is £100, is it possible to book a return flight and just cancel the return?

  • I'd book the return and just not turn up. I think the problem is if you want the return not the first one and then both would be cancelled. x

Many airlines only sell one-way tickets from the highest fare bucket. Not all though. Where are you flying from/to?

Book the trip both ways, then simply don't get on the return plane

Check out BA. They do cheap one-way's from the UK (you'll have to connect in LHR though).

You could, but since an affordable return ticket is available, the simple solution is to use the outward part and throw away the return.

That would be throw-away ticketing which is against the terms and conditions of most tickets. In principle the airline could come after the OP for the price-difference. It's unlikely to happen unless it's done systematically but if a cheap one-way fare is available I personally wouldn't risk it. But it's up to the OP to decide of course.
