Hi,

I am slowly going insane trying to submit meter reading using my npower!!!

Basically, we've only just bought our house in October, and only have given our initial readings thus far. npower have finally set us up online (yesterday) so I took the readings to update on the ste. However, there was already a (too high) estimate in for electricity. Anyway, when I've put the meter readings in, it's says they're implausibly low based on our previous usage (we have none, they must mean the old owners). It then gives you a drop down menu to select why this is the case, and when I select the reason, there's no way of then submitting the reading. I get stuck on that page. The line does change to 'plausible'...but it doesnt submit the reading. ARGH!

Has anyone else had this problem? I suspect it will mean phoning, which is not convenient for me. Also, I've started the switching process to Co-Op so I'm keen to have accurate readings on the account.

  • What type of meters, gas/electric/ Is it a metric or imperial gas meter and have you a multi rate digital or dial electric meter ?
  • It's dual fuel, it's an imperial gas meter (which they havent estimated) and a 5 digit electricity meter...the meter is rotating number rather than a digital screen.

My readings are definitely right, it just wont let me submit them, grrrr

If the web page isnt working then you will have to phone them up. It may even be an automated service so should only take a few minutes.

    Hi londonlydia,

I have also had a very frustrating time dealing with npower.

npower have been deploying a 'new system', which is - I have been alleging - "not fit for purpose", and which has led to quite a number of secondary issues.

Warning: npower accept new customers without sending them a Contract

When there are major issues with the 'new system' it could easily impact other areas.
The main thread (above) has links to other threads where some of these issues have been raised.

If you look at the most recent posts (Page 8, Post #141 ff) you will see that although the 'first symptoms' of the 'broken system at npower' were to do with sending Contracts, and other information, to new Customers we now have evidence of other 'symptoms of failure' with their 'new system'. I expect that this information may not help you directly but, OTOH, imagine you are driving along a motorway and suddenly 'all traffic comes to a halt'. If you hear that there has been a 'crash up ahead' it may help you to be less frustrated.

As npower's 'new system' continues to be used, more and more people phone and email and the result is huge delays in answering the phone, 'poor record keeping' (of the calls), and loss of data.

If you have evidence to add, please do so on the 'main thread' (above).

I wanted to give npower an accurate reading, on 26-Nov-2012 (the day of the price rise), and the hold time was about 20min. Some have posted more recently of 50min wait times. When I gave my readings, on the phone, they were also 'too low' for 'npower's new system'. The CS Rep was able to override the readings. I use very little Gas.

In your case, as you are leaving npower, give your readings to Co-Op (when the time comes) as the gaining Supplier will inform npower.

  • :rotfl:Now this is hilarious!

In the end I gave up and rang. Was simple enough it seemed, they said they would add on the reading.

Checked today... they've added it in but not deleted the estimate. Result? It is now saying that the meter has gone round a full cycle, and that in this quarter I have used 99030 kWh of electricity.

This would be just a bill of arround £15,500.

I forsee another phonecall is needed, I suspect I will probably have to explain that not only is not likely, it's also not possible given that it would blow my fuses as that would require me to draw 238A of current continously (and I'm not some sort of industrial sized drug-baron)...
