Had a claim go against me - When will my premiums go back to normal?

I was with Churchill, and i would have got 2 years NCB after 1 year of faultless driving..
I was 1 month away from that when i had an accident with my car (written off).
Im not gonna bore you with the details, but it wasnt my fault..lol
It never is right?
But anyway, i have no NCB anymore, none, and im thinking of riding motorcycles again. Ive got a full license but ive been told that you cant transfer NCB (not that i have any!)over to cars from bike cover but they do transfer claims from car cover over to bike cover and the other way around..
So..
How long will it be until my premiums go back to normal, or, how long until i dont need to disclose my previous claims for new cover?
This has really p***** me off because it genuinely wasnt my fault and Churchill said that the other party didnt accept liability and that if we go to court, i'll lose.

Most ask for the last 5 years. Noticed the other day as a result of another thread that Privilege only ask for the last three though so a bit less than some and there may be others out there.
So the answer to the question is 3 to 5 years I'm afraid.
Also the bike thing is true. I have had the same myself. Utter drivel as they count your claims but not your good record. Anyone would think the insurance industry was a multi-million pound business that saw the motorist as a cash cow or something....What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
from my past experience no other company apart from the admiral / elephant / bell group are more willing than needed to protect you as if the other party where to take you to court. most of the time when i check on money supermarket for an insurance quote 1 of those companies always comes up cheapest, so i don't know why you or anyone would have gone with churchill since they arent the cheapest.
aside from that, the other person is right, 3-5 years. unfortunately you need to be driving for a certain period ( i think its 4 years, not sure) before you can tick the box that says to protect your NCB even if you are in an accident and even if it was your fault, in other words your premiums will not ever go up if you pay a little extra to protect the NCB. looks like you are going to have to wait 3-5 years before premiums are normal, and 4 years or whatever it is after you have started your new NCB to protect it, in other words a frikin long time. shame, sorry for your accident - important thing is you are alive.0 -
Admiral are practically taking my accusers side over mine when I've been accused of having a fictional accident...
Anyway, you're right, you have to declare bike accidents on a car policy and vice versa, for the most part.
I have 1 car accident in 2009, one in 2010, and a bike accident in 2011. All write offs, no other vehicles in the first or third, all gone down as my fault, no injuries in any of them.
Comparison sites always ask for 5 years of accidents, lots of places direct only ask for three. For example, Direct Line.
Even though comparison sites ask for 5, you'll notice some brokers/insurers only take 3 into account, as some of them drop if you play about with the dates, others don't.
Bike comparison sites and insurers generally ask if the accident occurred on a bike policy. If it didn't, it doesn't have as much impact.
Aviva DIRECT ONLY didn't ask for car accidents on bike policies as of November 2011, they stated this directly in their FAQ and I confirmed it on the phone when I purchased the policy. However, they no longer quote online and are winding down their direct business. Other than the fact that everyone else was taking 3 accidents into account and they were only taking 1 into account, they were not very competitive for non car accident people.
Direct Line let you use bike NCB on a car. Some other insurers will also do this.
Some bike insurers will let you use car NCB on a bike, or match it on a bike (so, having had 5 claim free years on a car you are keeping, they will give you a fat discount on a bike policy).
Most of the above involves phoning round and putting effort in rather than going on comparison sites.
For what it's worth, with 1 year NCB I'm now insuring a 2011 Yamaha XJ6 F Diversion, with loads of mods including an exhaust, valued at £6000 including extras, £200 excess, fully comp, kept in a garage in the Bristol area, with 10,000 miles a year and pillion use, along with riding other bikes, no security other than garage and the factory fit immobiliser, for £325. Before I moved (5 miles away) I had no garage, then it was £454
I'm 29 and as well as the mentioned 3 accidents, I have 3 points for speeding in Jan 2011. I've held my full bike license since May 2011.
So, it does get a little better!0
