I used to use the free Expat Shield software to access the various iPlayers from outside the UK but have just bought a new laptop with Windows 8 for which there is no ES compatibility. All is not lost and have found an alternative in UnoTelly. It's not free but it is good value and the performance is much better than ES.

I used Identity Cloaker (google the name and you'll find it). while I was in America. It costs about $80 per year and there are shorter cheaper subscriptions available too. It works great for BBC Iplayer, wasn't so good for channel 4 though.
Apart from that was very good and I bought an annual subscription year after year.0 -
Why not just use a proxy browser. They are free and will hide your location so you can view websites from anywhere in the world.
I use one called Spotflux and have had no problems.0
