I recently set up a car loan which included Payment Protection Insurance. On receipt of the Policy Schedule and having read through it, I decided against and it duly sent my cancellation instructions to the company on the same day.
I heard nothing from them despite several letters, telephone calls and many emails. I finally received a refusal of the cancellation as I had apparently cancelled outside of the specified period.
On checking back, I sent my instructions late January and they were received in February. They took the cancellation date from the date that I signed the contract - however, the policy wording states cancellation period begins on date of signing or my receipt of policy - whichever is the latest.
I have now contacted FOS as I am getting absolutely nowhere - even though I cancelled on the day I received the policy.
Has anyone else had to deal with FOS or similar? Am I being thick or has this company breached it's own terms and conditions?
A word of advice too: Send everything recorded delivery so that you know they have received your correspondence. I foolishly thought that by backing up with email, an electronically dated copy would suffice - not so - as advised by FOS.
