Im changing from BT to plusnet. I got a recored message to call bt about diconnection charges. When i called the lady tried very hard to keep me with BT. She said i have to give 30 days notice which i gave them on 4th Jan. But she said notic will only start from when plusnet take over the line so i will be paying both BT and plusnet. I spoke to two BT people on 4th Jan one said 30 days notice i asumed it had started from when i gave it to him, the second said no notice was needed. Does anyone know if this is right? I dont understand why my 30 days notice doesn't stared when i give it.

Complete nonsense from BT, the notice period is normally 14 days.
This assumes that you are no longer in minimum term, otherwise an ETC will be charged. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you no the minimum term was over a long time ago and i just had the bill where i'm charged inadvance for line rental im going to try and get it back but i don't think it will be easy0

To be fair to BT, I got the monies owed (from forward payments) when I left BT for Plusnet, about 3 weeks after my final bill had been produced. It was paid direct back into my bank account.0

Thanks that gives me hope, just hope i have the same person dealing with my account that you did. The last lady i sopke to from BT said about the 30 days notice starting from when plusnet take over the line so that may come out of any advance payments i've made. I will just have to wait and see.0

As per macman -14 days notice if out of minimum term - I left BT on 8/6 and was charged til 22/6 for rental and a pro rata charge til 6/7 for my E/W package which I had left 4 weeks early .Got a rebate from advance charges of ~ £370
