Can someone recommend me a tablet please?

Options
Hello.:)

I won some money and I would like to treat myself to a tablet as I sometimes find my laptop too heavy on my lap due to disabilities and can't sit at a desk.

I have a budget of around £250 but could possibly stretch to £300. However, there are so many tablets on the market that I'm not sure what to go for.

I've been looking at the iPad mini and the Google Nexus. I've also been looking at the Amazon Kindle Fire.

The things I would be doing on it are Facebook, email and mostly games (I have an iPod Touch and I do love how many games are available from the Apple Store but the screen is a bit too small for me).

I also have an Android phone so I'm also aware what apps are available on that.

Does the Amazon Kindle Fire run on Android? I looked on the Amazon page but couldn't find any info about that.

Which tablet would you recommend? Are there also any others that you would recommend that I haven't looked into?

The bigger the storage capacity the better really as I will use it to store alot of photos (I'm into Photography) and alot of games!

Thank you in advance.:)

Does the Amazon Kindle Fire run on Android?

Originally Gingerbread (2.3), newer models are running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0).

Note: the latest version of Android is currently Jelly Bean (4.2). :)
  • Kindle Fire is android but you can't download apps direct from Google Play store, only Amazon's app store. There are ways around it but it can complicate matters. Nexus 7 gives best bang for the buck in the whole tablet market in my opinion if you are happy with the app selection on android.

Nexus 7 if that screen size is OK for you. (If you're thinking Ipad Mini or Kindle Fire then it suggests yes). Otherwise Nexus 10 if you need the larger screen.

Agree with the above, either type of Google Nexus tablet would be the best you can get for the money today. My wife loves her Nexus 7!
  • I've got a Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1 - cost £300 (6 months ago).

I cannot fault it really, it's fantastic. If your budget can stretch to it I'd highly recommend it.

    Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1
If you can stomach having to use TouchWiz instead of the standard Android interface it's certainly a possibility...
The bigger the storage capacity the better
BlackBerry PlayBook goes up to 64GB, though it doesn't run Android, iOS or anything else you're likely to have heard of.
  • I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (16gb) - Wifi & 3G
Cost me £238 just before Christmas and with the Samsung £50 cashback offer, I ended up paying just £188. I think the best you can hope for for this model would be around £350. Although models without 3g are cheaper.

This tablet is fantastic - I like the 3g although it could be tethered via a mobile phone if need be. It also has a slot for a micro SD card to make the memory expandable by another 32gb.

You may want to consider the Expandability and 3g versions when you decide what to buy - I also like the 10" screen size.

I would highly recommend this tablet to anyone.
