Zagfles Will they link us financially straight away? The minute I change address will they automatically know it's his home? With it only being for 4 months at most I was hoping I wouldn't be checked in that time frame. I just assumed they looked at random claims, rather than knowing by change of address that somebody else lived there.
Shedboy No, he won't be living there, he will stay at his mum's or brother's. My house is having alot of work done (well it's my mum's house) I work from home, clients come to me. Ex has offered our child and I to use his house temporarily whilst we can't live at mum's. it will be for 4 months at most. I have no other option and can't afford to not work for 4 months. I will obviously need to inform CB & TC office of a temporary move, just worried they will automatically know it's his house & make us do a joint claim.0 -

It might not be straight away but when they do it'll cause you a massive amount of hassle even if everything is above board. There's a lot of fraud where people pretend to be single when they're not, HMRC are very hot on this, and using financial links to addresses is the main way of detecting this fraud. You really don't want to come under suspicion as it'll be a lot of grief.
Thanks again for taking time to reply, the thing is, if I wanted to commit benefit fraud then why would I tell the truth about moving temporarily? That's the way I see it, but of course they may not. If I don't get looked into in the 4 months and then I go back to my usual address can I assume that I'm not in trouble?
Was talking to my friend about this today, she separated with her ex ages ago, he's got another place so can prove he doesn't live their with regards to council tax etc.. But the mortgage is in his name and even though all the bills have now been put into her name since he left, one of them still comes out of his bank account, she had no idea this could land her in trouble with regards to tax credits as this has been this way for 3 years since they spilt! So surely they don't check claims very regularly? She's sorting it out now that I've told her what I've learned from this board.0 -
From what i've read so far it will be based on the household.
I know its different to you but this is an example. If a family, all unemployed, and maybe mum gets tax credits & stuff, and hubby gets JSA, if he's sanctioned the whole family will be.0
