Bath removed , how to retile?

We are removing our bath and replacing with a walk in shower , the room was fully tiled about 4yrs ago and I love how it looks and the new shower will match our existing basin and toilet so we want to replace the tiles where the bath comes out so we don't have to retile the whole room. Now its looking like we may not be able to buy more of the same tile (a retailer that sells the make of tile is going to try and locate some for us but isn't hopeful) so any suggestions of how we could go about this ? Hubby thinks it will be fine to just find a similar tile and just use those :D I think it would look awful. Is there another way? or should we get a contrasting tile for instance... any suggestions would be gratefully received or I'm going end up with a grotty mismatched bathroom we really can't afford to redo the whole room. :o

Option 1. Do not remove the bath and replace with walk-in shower. Instead upgrade your showering arrangements overbath. Might be disappointing but if the other options do not gell with you then it might be the only one you have.

Option 2. Locate matching tiles - looks challenging and won't match as they'll inevitably be different batch numbers.

Option 3. Create a break with a highly contrasting border tile and then tile below where the bath previously was with tiles different to those above the break. For heavens sake choose tiles below the break that are physically the same size as the ones above it. If you don't the grout lines won't line up and it will look a mess.

Option 4. As Option 3 but to make it look as though you meant it to be that way from the beginning take off all tiles in the room one tile above where the bath currently is (if it was done properly there willl be part tiles along the edge of the bath where the tiler "tiled down" to the bath edge. Take your contrasting border all the way round the room and tile below it with your chosen tile.

Option 5. Have the whole lot off and retile whole room (included for completeness as you've already discounted it on cost grounds)

    Cheers

yep that pretty much sums up your options, i'd go with either 1 or 4 if you can't get the same tiles & you can't re-do the whole lot
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Try EBay - often discontinued tiles end up on there

We are removing the bath for safety reasons as I am having more surgery at some point and its gonna be safer to walk in rather than climb lol..
I guess we'll have to play it by ear should know today if the tiles are still made and then decide which of those helpful options to go with.. thanks for your thoughts people I will take a look at e-bay but unless the shop can tell me the name of the tiles I won't know what to look for...

As keystone says, even if they are still made the shade is very likely to be different. sometimes this can be like night and day.

As keystone has suggested, a contrast usually works better than trying to find a close match
