Are all scsi hard drives the same?

Sounds like a stupid question so to clarify.

If I buy a HP proliant server, but then buy a dell scsi harddrive will it work, and will the dell casing for it fit a HP server?

Obviously scsi hard drives are of different sizes, and presumably different build quality - although I have no idea which brands are better than others.

Thanks

Not heard anyone mention a scsi drive for years, didn't know they still made them.

The server you are looking at, you sure there scsi drives.

They are not all the same, even they do not have all the same connections either. sometimes a conversion cable will fix this if they are the same standard.

Generally speaking the old scsi are parallel, and the newer ones serial.

yes, they are still used in servers as sata do not have the speed (iops) and ssd are far too small and expensive.

SCSI is still standard in servers although as mentioned above it is now known as SAS - Serial Attached SCSI:

If you're buying an HP server why not buy HP disks?

Newer HPs can use SAS, SATA, Universal scsi and SSD. The last Dell I worked on used ULTRA320 scsi.
