The reason they do it does not make the 'fact' misleading- they are still the two debts most quickly referred to court.

Facts should still be taken in context, I didn't say the fact was misleading - merely stating something without giving the reasons why is misleading.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

I recently underpaid my council tax (completely by mistake I wasn't trying to evade payment) and for missing one month I was summoned to court. When I phoned up and settled the outstanding debt they waived the court summons. However they said this was because it was my first court summons and it was a genuine mistake. I don't know if they will be so lenient when you failed to provide the relevant evidence despite having plenty of opportunity to do so.

  • Thanks everyone for your posts, Just thought I would give you an update.

I have just spoken with the council and they are going to clear both the amount outstanding and the cost of the summons so things turned out well.

Thanks again for all your help.
