Hi,

I've just bought a Renault Megane Scenic diesel 1.5 car with 86,000 on the clock. It has been looked after as it has come from a family member. How long can i typically expect this car to run till? 100,000 more, less?

Thanks
D

The 1.5 DCi is a timebomb of an engine. Turbos being the main weakpoint. If it has been really well looked after then it might be ok.

Electrics also give trouble - dash units fail.

Electric windows give up regularly too, though this isnt as expensive as it once was to fix.

The plastic remove 'cards' give trouble, but theres a guy on ebay who can pull them apart and repair them.

The electric handbrake also gives trouble and can be a pig if your car has one.

I think the dipstick is the one that has to go through several bends as it goes in and is prone to breaking.

Fuel pumps give trouble and are expensive to fix.

Injectors give trouble and are expensive to fix.

Has it had its timing belt done? They're due at 96,000 / 6 years if its '07 onwards or 70K (i think) if its older than that.
