parking at ST james hospital, Leeds

Could do with some advice re a parking ticket issued to me while visiting my mum just before christmas. My mum had been taken to hospital following a fall at home, I rang the hospital and was told she was on the high dependancy unit, fearing the worse I drove over to the hospital and turned into an entrance which showed as the gledhow wing. I parked my car at the first available spot I could find which was near the church, it was raining hard and dark at the time and I do not recall seeing any parking signs as I was in a rush to see what was going on with my mum, some 2 hours later I returned to my car and it was not until I was setting off that I noticed something on my windscreen, yes a parking notice I was so annoyed I just screwed it up and threw it away. It is only now I have given it any thought as things have settled down and my mum is back home again. If I get any letters re this can I safely ignore.

Thanks for any advice I might recieve

It will probably be a private parking invoice, if they are in the bpa aos they will get the RK details from the dvla, then write to the keeper threatening all sorts of outlandish threats, just ignore them they will not do court. If it is a council ticket though again they will write to you, please don't ignore it.

  • Thanks for that, I was parked within the hospital grounds so I presume it would have been a private ticket

I was just Googling to try to find out which bunch of scammers has the contract to carry out the car park protection racket at Jimmy's. Can't be a very well respected firm (are there any? No!)...seeing as the Hospital reckon they can still clamp cars!

    http://www.stjames.ie/Patients/Gettinghere/Parkingfacilites/

''An external management company manages car parking on site. All vehicles parked unofficially throughout the hospital grounds will be clamped and a release fee of €24.00 applies. This is in the interest of safety and to ensure the flow of traffic around the hospital.''

Now that's a fairly low amount but who is going to tell them that is now an illegal threat?

Anyway, chrischris1947, you will either get some letter or you won't. Either way you can forget about it as it wasn't a real fine.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Leeds Hospitals use a private company. Unlike Leeds General, Jimmys does at least have a huge multistorey car park on site.

I know Pinderfields and Pontefract use Balfor Beattie who are in the AOS, thinking about it all I ever used to get there was a ahem "ticket" from Leeds NHS Teaching hospital trust and I doubt they are in the AOS.

Should be safe to ignore but just keep an eye out for court papers if they ever do decide to chase you...if they get your details that is.

*** Just found this after a bit of digging, it is Leeds NHS owned and operated outright, appeals goto NHS cashiers office Beckett St, if not paid can go onto Newlin's for collection, but judging by whatdotheyknow they dont do court https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3779095 and 50% dont get paid
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful
  • Thanks for all your replies, will wait and see if I get any letters, it was 20th Dec when I parked there so it might be a while before I get any letters, will keep you posted.
