How Will Terms of my Redundancy Affect Benefits?

Hi All,
I am currently in a situation that might result in redundancy in the next few months. I've been given figures for the company's redundancy payment and they are significantly above the statutory amount. My job and entire department is likely to be shut down - work is being outsourced abroad - and there is no sign of alternative positions in the area becoming available.
I take it that under these circumstances the redundancy will be compulsory and therefore not affect being able to get benefits, but what determines if a redundancy is compulsory or voluntary and how does this affect eligibility for benefits?
I've heard of people being offered enhanced benefits but these are only offered if it is agreed that the redundancy is technically 'voluntary' - with less money being offered for a 'compulsory' redundancy - what are the rules surrounding such circumstances? I believe that people taking voluntary redundancy cannot get benefits as the Government considers them to have willingly left a paid job, what are the details of this?
Does the quantity of the redundancy payment also affect eligibility for benefits? I've been in the job for five years and assume I'll be able to get Contribution-based JSA do any of my circumstances affect this?
Many thanks
Mr O

Makes no difference to benifits. but can effect insurances.
you can claim contributins JSA from the day you are terminated.
all others are as normal(usualy not eligable due to caoital ).
VR is something internal to a company.
package also makes no difference a company can make up any package as long as they give over statutory.0 -
The affect on benefits depends not only on how much you get in redundancy (and how much is PILON), but also on how much you have in savings as well.Never Knowingly Understood.
