Lap-Top key board not typing correctly

Options
Hi, I have just formated my old Acer Travelmate 254LMi_DT XP
[ not bad for an old girl of 75], but my keyboard is not working, correctly, the symbols are wrong and I can't get the at symbol at all and that stops me resetting my wireless connection and email address.

I have made sure the region and language are set to UK and restarted Windows, but it is still wrong.

I would be grateful for your help,
Thanking you Drinda.

I cant think what it is called, it is like the quotation but one single tick. I have just found that if I Hold shift and press 2 I get the @.

How can I sort that, Thanking you Drinda.

Is it possible that the Num Lk key has become switched off?

Depending on your keyboard, the key will be either along one of top rows, or top left of numeric keyboard at right-hand side.

Thank you very much Closed, I've done that and now my old laptop is working like new, could I ask you one more thing, is it very costly to have a new CMOS battery put in it I don't think that I should try that myself.
    Thanks Again Drinda.

Watch batteries cost very little, paying someone to change it might, but easy to diy

is it stopping the machine booting without pressing a key?

the time can be synced with a time server after windows starts if that is the only reason

Hi Closed, My laptop boots OK but the Clock does not keep the time, it goes way back to about 1988 so I have to reset it every time I switch it on, the family history sites that I visit are blocked until I correct the time. It says " the security certificate is out of date" but when I correct the time it works.

"It depends". Some are just under the keyboard, others require the base of the laptop or the palmrest removing to get to the CMOS battery. Invariably as well they are ones with wires and a connector soldered to them so unlike a desktop PC, its not as simple as going to Poundland and buying a CR2032 for a quid.

right click on the clock icon.

there you will find details of a couple of servers to sync the time to automatically, find one that works (by doing update now), and set it to sync automatically

    add_time_servers.fig_.2.gif

you can change how often it syncs by editing the registry
