Counselling :-(

My DS has been diagnoised with a few things
Asthma
Aspergers
Arthritis
Dyctalitis
Connective tissue disease

Other diagnoises will be given when blood work comes back.

He is devestated, sore, and tends to overthink things.
His consultant has recommended swimming as an exercise, and his first session was yesterday, he said it was awful, he couldnt walk when he immediatly got out of the pool he had to rest as his legs wouldnt work :(

I told him that any exercise is painful esp when the body isnt used to it.

Last night he came up to the sitting room in tears, properly crying, he said he couldnt get it out of his head, he said bad things always happen to me, I dont want to have arthritis or any of these things, i keep thinking whats next! He told me that he has all the A's, and the B's have started with his Braces, whats next.... he then completly broke down and told me he was afraid he would get Cancer, I was gutted, I didnt know what to say to him!
Whilst he was at his consultants appointment, he was admitted onto a ward, where the consultant started scanning his Hands, Arms and Knees, she said something that he picked up on, Her words were uh oh, this isnt good, there are tumours here and promptly brought her registrar and student in, who both in turn said oh they look bad.... My DS looked at me and said does this mean what i think it means? I just said it could be fluid pockets, or just a cyst. The consultant then said we need to take some bloods, and the results wont be ready for 3 weeks.

I cant give him answers, and as his mummy im worried sick for him, but i havent shown it yet. Last night almost wrecked me, when he went to bed at midnight, I cried.

Can anyone tell me where i can get some counselling for him? I dont think he quite believes me.

i don't know if this will help or not ... but it made me think at the time and helped me put things into perspective.

i was borm woth a genetic condition, that was undiagnosed until i was 12 ( no family history so no one knew what they were looking for)
    amyway ...

i was told that by the age of 40. i would have a severe visual impairment.
at the age of 33 u was registered blind. i didnt expect it and i was in shock until i phoned my dad ... and the tears came.

he responded by saying 'can you see the same today as you could yesterday?'

the answer obviously was yes. so he went on to ask my what i was crying for then.

a diagnosis can feel the most terrible thing in the world. but until the day tou are actually dead, you are still alive!

his conditions dont define him as a person, and regardless of the diagnosis, he is the same today as he was yesterday!

hope that gives a bit of perspective and good luck!

Oh poor him :( (gentle) hugs for you both!

I would ask his GP if he could refer you to your local CAMHS service (assuming he's under 18) so that you can get some support in place for him, these are the people who deal with therapy and mental health support for children and adolescents. In the mean time can you get in contact with support groups for the conditions he suffers from and see if there's maybe some way for him to talk to people who also have it and are a bit older?
