I require some advice about booking tickets etc to cross the channel.
I want to know if you can hitch a ferry at the port, or must one book in advance?
And about Eurotunnel, only from Brussels -- can you take a train on the fly?
Thanks

I went to Paris sometime Summer 2008 and yes, you can order a ticket at Dover (P&O ferries) port however they have specific opening times so you might want to time your arrival before then, or you may have a late night sitting around lol
I cannot seem to find the link for you at this time but will keep checking
By the way, if you are driving into France you will need to have some safety gear in your car at all, all is described here

Okay thanks..
Could you remember how much the fare was?0 -
I think back then it was about £15 for one way, cannot see it being much more expensive now"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0

Yes, I'm looking to take a car.0

See, I didn't drive so I couldn't tell you how much it is by car, you are far better phoning them and getting it from the horses mouth as it were"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. You can buy tickets for any of the three companies operating out of Dover at anytime of the day or night. All companies have desks in the travel center. If the travel center is closed, then just drive round to the check-in desks of the company you wish to travel with and they can sell you a ticket.
There is a lot of building work going on at Dover at the moment so pay close attention to signs etc.
However, unless you have no other option but to do this I would book online or via telephone at least the day before. Tickets bought at the port are pretty much always the dearest and will not qualify for special offers unless they are feeling generous.0 -
Yes, and I'm the chump that gets stuck behind someone in the check-in queue doing just that, grrr.0

As I get offers from ferry companies by email, I know that DFDS offer 20% off 2013 crossings on one of the short channel routes if booked in the next few days - book before 14th Jan using offer code E13EBO - Can't see anything similar from P & O this week
And Eurostar have just announced a sale on London-Paris or Brussels tkts with some at £59 instead of the usual 'sale £69' . Don't know if that helps your trip the other way, but generally pre-booked is much cheaper than walk-ups- sometimes by hundreds of pounds0
