Unhappy with Car Write-Off Valuation?

Just wanted to let people know that we have successfully complained to the FOS about the write-off value given by our insurer (who shall remain nameless) for our car. Once the FOS got involved, the nameless insurer decided to increase the valuation to nearly double the original amount, and compensation as well.
Very pleased as we were considerably out of pocket after the accident. It took nearly 8 months but we have a very satisfactory result.

A doubling of the offer is very good going. Do you mind me asking, was this quite a low value vehicle. I'm thinking say £500 original offer up to £1000.
It would be worse if the insurer had offered say £5,000 for a vehicle worth £10,000 and if so, I think many here would be interested to know who.
Did they offer any explanation? Was it a mistake on the vehicle type for instance? A look at Glasses (or the inferior Parkers Guide) will give you an idea of how many designations there are for mass market vehicles like Fiestas, Golf's, Astras etc. The engineer might have got the wrong one - human error - but it should not have taken 8 months to resolve that.0
