MSE News: Ofcom to tackle nuisance calls

There are several organizations with similar names. None appears to be TPS-related. Nuisance Call Registry has a £43 one-off charge and claims to be better at blocking calls, so much so that we chose not to use them after thinking about it. They seemed to know already that most of the calls were from India, which seems to match the calls - "Hello, my name is Jack and I am from xyz". xyz is obviously in India from the very polite manner and accent.
Are any of these services worth it, is a TrueCall box better? I bought one but can't get to the master socket due to disability.--

Why is there very little to be done about unwanted calls?
