service plan

my car is under a 5 year warrenty and requires a manufacturers service every year, the manufacturer wanted between £200-420 for each years service (depending on what has to be done each year) and for this im paying into a service plan every month.

i've looked else where and found the servicing available for about 50% of the price and they stamp the service log ect.

so should i be entitled to claim my money back from the company if the money has not even been used once?

I presume you signed a contract for the service plan?

If so, then no. The time to check servicing costs is before you buy.

Also I'd be reluctant to move outside the dealer network for servicing while the car is under warranty.

No. Also be aware that in order to satisfy the manufacturers warranty, the other places you've found have to do the servicing to the manufacturers specification using genuine parts. Virtually none do. They may put a stamp in the book but that is meaningless when it comes to a warranty claim. Also these third parties will rarely have access to ECU software updates and won't do any recall work.

You can get it done cheaper but it is upto the requirements of the warranty?

You can get a garage to stamp in the book from having an oil change.

  • im getting it done with halfords as they do a special manufacturers service and i checked with them if my cars warrenty would be ok and they said said yes because they will get in genuine parts from manufacturer to complete the service.

and no i havnt signed anything at all, on my first service af i paiod in full they said "oh your not part of a service plan, would u like to be" so i said yes and after telling me how much/month that was it.

they want £396 for the 2nd year service when halfords will do it for £210

Wonder if my mate still has his pictures of his car hanging off the ramps.

It fell off and got wedged by the wing. Although they did pay him a nice sum to sort it, Which he never did.

When buying a car if I saw anything other than main dealers or marque specialist independants in the service history in the first few years I'd be wanting to get the price knocked down and not just a little bit. And then it would be straight to a main dealer for a full service to get what Halfords or whoever hadn't done sorted such as software updates.
  • kwik fit can do it a slighty more expensive price, worth it?

If it was a choice between Kwik s**t and a semi trained lab rat, the rodent wins every time.

If i was buying a car and the stamps in the book were from Halfords or Kwikfit i would offer them half the asking price, Or walk away.
