Free school breakfasts for all tested by council

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-20936420

C'mon this is not good enough!

Why can't the council also pick our kids up from home in the morning and make sure that they are dressed and washed too?

They should also offer a free shoe-cleaning service, as well as a laundry service. This is 2013 for god's sake! If the state can't provide these things free for our children, there is no hope for the country!

They were hammering on about people living below the poverty line and thus not being able to provide breakfast, but it's the cheapest and most important meal of the day! How much does an economy box of cornflakes and milk cost, really? And it'll last you at least a few days!

I used to know a girl who was 11, woke herself up for school, got herself dressed, showered and made her own breakfast, before making sure to lock the door and go to school herself, while her mum stayed in bed because she wanted a lie in (every single day). It wouldn't surprise me if that is the real reason why kids don't get breakfast.

What a waste of money, they should be spending it on important things such as teaching the parents how to park a BMW X5 or Range Rover

Free school breakfasts have been available at all primary schools in Wales for years.

Seems a good idea. Feeding children should not be a controversial policy!

More than half of teachers believed that the problem of children arriving hungry at school was getting worse.

They believed that a lack of money is a major problem for some families - but a bigger problem was the failure or inability of parents to provide a breakfast for their children.

"This means that, in many families, parents are leaving children to fend for themselves in the morning. This is because some parents simply don't have the time or inclination to prepare breakfast, let alone supervise their children or encourage them to eat it," says the report.

This problem is worse among primary pupils, says the Kellogg's report, because they find it harder than secondary pupils to "fend for themselves".

I find that absolutely appalling. If you don't have enough time to get your children up and give them breakfast, get up earlier. I was brought up where my dad would give me a hiding if I didn't have breakfast. Pure and utter laziness and a disgrace.

People complain about the UK turning into a Nanny State, but they are more than happy for the Government to have to feed their children as they are incapable of doing so.

I imagine a lot of people would find it appalling that

Parents not feeding their children should be a controversial and depressing fact, though.

At the end of the day, if that's what they need to do to make teachers' lives easier, it's what needs to be done. But *so sad* that people can't even be bothered to feed their children these days...what chance do they have? :'(
