Do you see things like :
Adobe Acrobat Update Service
Java (TM) Update Scheduler
You might want to run a spyware/Anti-Virus scan to be sure and see what's running that should not be...Laters

how much are you paying for this limited (crippled) service, probably get a new wireless router to make full use of laptops etc and a far better unlimited price elsewhere without the worry or expense of going over limits

With windows updates there are different settings to deal with them. One of them is "download updates but let me choose whether to install them" or you can select "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them"
In addition (windows 7 for definite) you can set the time of when they install them. But obviously if your computer is turned off at that time, it can't do it. Plus it doesn't actually say when it downloads it, or if it downloads and installs at that particular time.
Perhaps, as you have a couple of updates, it's downloaded them, under the download now, and let me install later?0 -

That's line rental, eve/weekend calls, and 10GB broadband.
TalkTalk Essentials seems to be £18.20 for 9 months and then £21.45 (but with unlimited downloads)machine is unlikely to run well with all that security software
