Welcome and the very best of luck on your MFW journey...
My tip is to subscribe to lots of diaries as they will help to keep you focused and it's nice to have a little bit of banter with like minded people.
In the "outside" world, people tend to think that being MF is a bit silly as most people just tend to think that you get a mortgage and have it until you retire (at best).....

Good luck on your mortgage free journey Sholly!
I also quite enjoy proving to people that your age doesn't matter. A door to door salesman came to my door a couple of weeks ago and didn't believe I was the homeowner - he asked if my Mum or dad were home!
I'll keep an eye on your diary!0 -

Love your enthusiasm! Well done on your first flat!! :T You must have saved like mad! I'm saving as much as I can, no debt, but seemingly not quick enough for OH as he wants to buy a house yesterday!
I've a diary too if you want to read my ramblings in trying not to spend money!!
I would recommend First Direct by the way. I switched to them a few months ago and it was sooooo easy!!! They're great on the phone. I'm more an internet banking person rather than phone, but even that part of it isn't bad! I've got their e-saver (to avoid £10 monthly fee) and their regular saver (8% interest on up to £3600 in 12 months), plus got the £100 switching bonus too.
Gonna follow and see how you're doing if that's ok!!

Thank you, I'd love you to follow me!!
I saved like mad!! I had my main, full-time job (daytime) and also worked full-time (nights) in a nightclub so I saved my wages from the daytime job and then spent the nightclub wages if I wanted nights out etc. I was sooo tired all the time but it allowed me to save and have a life at the same time. I topped up my savings with my nightclub wage when I wanted to or needed to boost the bank balance! I was living with my parents at the time so had very little outgoings. I only put down a 5% deposit too which helped make it all achievable.
The OHs always want things yesterday, what are they like!!!
Thank you for the link to your diary - I'll subscribe and have a read when I get a sec.
And thank you for the info re First Direct - I've heard a similar glowing report from a friend. Only things I want to check with them are what kind of overdraft I'll be offered, if there is a fee for using your planned overdraft (I see they don't charge up to £250 but need to check what it is over that...just in case) and which option will be best for me (I def don't want to pay £10 per month)lulabelle1 wrote: »Welcome and the very best of luck on your MFW journey...

Thank you Lulabelle (love the name!), and for the advice. I'm a member of a few threads that keep me motivated, and entertained! I did NOvember, then December Debt Destruction, now I'm onto January's Big Financial Freeze. All challenges are set by NinjaSavingKat, I also follow her diary. It's difficult to keep up with them all!!
I totally agree with what you said about 'the outside world'! Personally, I cannot wait to be mortgage free!!0 -
Deal
Well done again and hats off to you for saving so much so quick. Does sound like it was tough with the 2 jobs etc but you know yourself it was well worth it
If I'd had the head down from when I left school I could've bought a house a long time ago. Live and learn, huh?!
Ha! You said it! And anything that is actually done is never done right either:mad: :rotfl:
Welcome! Not sure about their overdraft as I don't use it, but the 'free' £250 does sound about right.
Just open the e-saver online and stick £1 in it - that will avoid the £10 monthly feeWealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -

Haha, that's happened to me before too!! :rotfl: Thanks Becky, do you have mortgage challenge too?

hi sholly, loved reading the start of your diary, brought back memories, i was 18 when we got our first mortgage and our parents had to sign the credit agreement, although they did not help us out. And when the midwife came to check on my 2nd baby, she tried to take my mum through to the bedroom to examine her instead of me!
Wish i had been as clued up as you at your age, we spent ages in debt, and never thought of paying off our first mortgage early..although it was always a millstone round our necks. Finally paid it off last year, and only then did we realise that we did not need to pay the remaining mortgage over the next 15 years as the banks had planned. Aiming for 4-5 years, then would love to do some oversea work, knowing my house is safe at home.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

I'm thinking of switching my bank account to First Direct as it sounds like they do all of the hard work and they pay you £125 for the pleasure...hmm, will have to look into this a bit further.
Hello and welcome!
I too have been laughed at for my impossible dreams (I am still aiming to pay mine off by end of next year - something not even my husband believes!) You are right to let it make you more determined!!
FD are excellent BTW - been with them for several years and they are so easy to deal withMortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k
Savings: £3k
Aim: 100k by Dec 20210
