Front door replacement

Options
Hello there,

EW have the ugliest front door known to man! It is white UPVC but has become badly scuffed over the years as my other half has brought his bike through the house after work every day. It also has a crack, the lip bit missing and also the frame itself is chipped now. We had someone come today to look at it and give us a quote. I like the look of the composite doors as you can get these in colours (won't show the scuffs so badly) and they have a wood effect so look a world away from UPVC. We have been quoted about £850-900 with fitting, all door furniture and making good which I think is about right as my sister in law had similar fitted for similar last year. Now this is the big question...I have seen a second hand door on Ebay.....this is the info about it:

This is a homesafe front door green outside white inside

see photos the inside white side shows the door when it was hung in my house

Queen anne style lead double glazed glass

Has chrome letter box cover to front & back of door

Chrome door knocker

Can be hung on a wooden or plastic frame

you need to get your own hinges and lock and door handle and a weather strip. The mark is where the old weather strip was just needs a cloth over it was doing this in a hurry before we moved it to the cartlodge for storage before it rained

Good used condition has a tinge of silver spray where I hung a Christmas decoration on outside

could get it off with some kind of cleaner

very nice door 77" tall x 34.75" wide

depth of door 1.75"

It is a good price so.....

If the dimensions were correct, would it be a good buy (£40 with only 15 hours to go no bids yet but a 45 minute drive) and if so, how much would I expect to be charged to have it fitted?

THanks,

Nuninge

What mateial is the door made from? Whats the size of your doorway compared to the door on offer? £ 100 - £120 to fit if it fits. What? Yes - how much you paid for it is irrelevant. Its still the same amount of work to fit it.

    Cheers

The door on ebay is stated as UVPVC ( not UPVC ). I've googled it but can't find out what it is so not sure if it is the same sort of composite that the full price doors are that we have been looking at or if it is a typo....I have emailed them but just waiting to hear back.

The door on ebay is 77 inches tall and ours seems to be 72 inches tall and it is wider than ours too. We have the space for a taller and wider door I think having measured the area and as we are having a new frame and everything, then surely the new frame would just need to be made to fit the larger door? Or am I making assumptions?

    Thanks for responding so quickly.

No i'm not. I'll not be the one fitting the door. What I'm saying is that we currently have what I would consider an average sized door, but there is quite a lot of frame so I think that when the previous owners had the upvc windows and doors installed, they wanted to keep costs down so put in a standard size (and therefore I assume cheaper) door in and simply built up the frame around it. If we are getting a new door frame anyway and all the previous stuff will be removed and there is room for this bigger door, then I can't see a problem purchasing it but as I say I don't know, that's why I'm asking on here. Thank you
